Evans came to the Hawkeyes from Coffeyville Community College for his final two years at the collegiate level.  His impact was felt immediately under Coach Steve Alford as Evans was named the Newcomer of the Year by ESPN.com. Evans led the nation with his 11.9 rebounding average, as well as making 218 free throws, attempting 346 free throws and collecting 22 double-doubles.  Evans was selected as a 2nd-Team All Big Ten forward in both of his years at Iowa.  His free throws attempted and made his junior year, remain Hawkeye records to this day for a single season.  He also holds the single season record for rebounds with 416.  Despite the team accolades, Evans went undrafted out of college.  He signed with the Seattle Supersonics and played there until 2006.  In the 2004-05 season, Evans led the NBA in rebounds-per-minute played, with statistics showing that he rebounded a quarter of every shot taken while he was on the floor.  Evans was traded to the Denver Nuggets, which turned out to be a great thing for him as a player, where his playing time dramatically increased.  In one game of the 2006 season, Evans had 0 points and 20 rebounds, which had not been done in an NBA game since Dennis Rodman accomplished the feat in 1997.  In 2007, Evans was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and became a fan favorite due to his tenacity for rebounding.  Before the 2009 season, Evans was traded to the Toronto Raptors, but missed all but one game of the first half of the season due to a foot injury, making his season debut the night before the All-Star break.  Evans finished the season with an average of 3.4 PPG and 3.8 RPG. He was healthy to start the 2010 season and was averaging 4.0 PPG along with 12.1 RPG and 1.4 APG as a member of the Raptors’ starting five. But, the injury bug struck again and Evans broke his right foot and was out around 5 weeks. For the 2010-2011 season Evans ended up averaging 4.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He was without a team once the NBA lockout ended but he was signed by the Los Angeles Clippers right before the 2011 season got underway.
