Dennis Green was a 3 year letter winner at the University of Iowa where he excelled as a running back. He played very briefly in the CFL in 1971 for the BC Lions, but his career was in coaching. He started that career in 1973 at the University of Dayton, but the following year he returned to the Hawkeyes from 1974-1976 as their Running Backs Coach. He left the Hawkeyes for his first stop at Stanford, only to leave them for the NFL where he worked for one year with the San Francisco 49ers as their Special Teams Coach. He returned to Stanford a year later as their Offensive Coordinator, only to head back to the Big Ten in 1981 as the Head Coach of the Northwestern Wildcats. He coached there for 5 years, and in 1986 returned to the 49ers as their Running Backs Coach until 1988. He left them again for his 3rd and final stop at Stanford, where he was the Head Coach from 1989-1991. He left them to become the Head Coach for the Minnesota Vikings in 1992, and his tenure there lasted until 2001. His best season resulted in the Vikings going 15-1 in the regular season in 1998. In 2004, Green became the Head Coach for the Arizona Cardinals until 2006. He will most likely be remembered for this postgame rant. In 2009, Dennis Green became the Head Coach of the California Redwoods in the inaugural season of the United Football League, coaching his team to a 2-4 record. Green who took over as General Manager following the season, now helms the Sacramento Mountain Lions as the team opted to permanently move their home games to Sacramento when they partnered with Sacramento State University before the 2010 season began. Green’s Mountain Lions went 4-4 during the 2010 season. He came back as the head man the following season and the Mountain Lions finished 1-3 before beating Omaha in the League Consolation Game. His team’s 2011 results:
