Angerer came to the Hawkeyes out of Bettendorf, Iowa and put on the redshirt his first season. He only saw limited action his Freshman season but that increased his Sophomore season when he played in 4 games. Unfortunately, he only accumulated one assisted tackle in that limited time. That all changed the following season, leading the team in tackles his Junior season and being named 2nd Team All-Big Ten by the Coaches. His Senior season at Iowa, Angerer ranked 4th in the Nation in tackles per game, a stat that contributed to him being named AP 2nd Team All-American as well as 1st Team All-Big Ten by the Coaches & Media. He currently ranks 25th overall in career tackles with 258, while his 145 tackles during his Senior season rank 5th highest for a single year. Angerer was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2nd Round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 63rd pick overall. On July 29th, 2010 Angerer signed a 4 year contract with the Colts. He saw game action in every game of the season and became a starter during Week 6 against the Redskins. He accumulated 88 tackles as well as 1 sack & 1 forced fumble. His tackle total ranked 4th among the rest of the rookie class, and 1st among rookie Linebackers. Angerer added 5 tackles in the Colts’ loss to the Jets in the first round of the playoffs. The Colts were dealt a blow heading into the 2011 season as Peyton Manning was not ready to start the season because of neck surgery. Angerer took charge on the defensive side of the ball, and currently is in the top 5 in the NFL in tackles despite being injured in the game against the Patriots. His 2011 stats:
