Jonathan Babineaux – Atlanta Falcons – Hawkeye (2000-2004)

December 29th, 2009

Although widely considered as under-sized while playing for the Hawkeyes, Jonathan Babineaux was well-known across the Big Ten for how big he played.  He holds the Hawkeye single-season record for tackles for loss with 25 his senior season.  He turned that play into a 2nd Round choice by the Atlanta Falcons when they selected him with the 59th pick overall. He has since been a consistent contributor for the Falcons throughout his career, despite a few off the field incidents. He wrapped up his 5th year as the starting right defensive tackle for Atlanta. He finished the 2009 season with 47 tackles, 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles before the Falcons fell short of the playoffs.  Before the season got going, Babineaux was suspended for 1 game of the 2010 season due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. He returned to game action in Week 2 and contributed 27 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and an interception.  He added 3 tackles & .5 sack in the Falcons Divisional Round Playoff loss to the Packers. He remained a starter on the Defensive Line for the 2011 season. His 2011 stats:
