After finishing a tremendous senior season at Center for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2008, Rob Bruggeman went undrafted during the 2009 NFL Draft. Bruggeman was signed to a free agent deal by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on May 1, 2009 and played in all four preseason games. He was waived by the Buccaneers in September 2009. The Atlanta Falcons signed Bruggeman to a free agent contract on September 07, 2009. Rob was placed on the Falcons practice squad and was on the Practice Squad Injury List for most of the 2009 season. He bounced back this preseason and made the Falcons 53 man roster for the 2010 season. In the first game, Bruggeman saw action on special teams but did not accumulate any stats. The following day Bruggeman was waived by the Falcons in order to make room for another former Hawkeye, Jonathan Babineaux. They moved him to the practice squad after the release. Bruggeman signed a future contract with the team following the end of the 2010 season & reported to camp with the Falcons. He made the 53 man roster as a backup Center but was released after their first game. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs before their Week 13 game.
