Charles Godfrey was selected with the 4th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. In 2008, Godfrey started in all 16 games as a rookie for the Panthers at Free Safety and recorded 61 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception and 1 Forced Fumble. In 2009, Godfrey battled an ankle injury in the middle of the season but managed to play in 12 games while starting 11 of them. He recorded 45 tackles with 4 forced fumbles and 1 interception. As their 53 man roster was set, the Panthers headed into the 2010 season with Godfrey listed as their starting Strong Safety. His 5 interceptions tied him for 9th in the league in that category.
