Roth was drafted by the Miami Dolphins as the 46th pick overall of the 2005 NFL Draft. Roth played in 16 games in a reserve role throughout his rookie season in 2005. On the year, he amassed 22 tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery Roth increased his production in 2006. In 16 reserve appearances, Roth had 37 tackles and 3.5 and three forced fumbles. Roth was then elevated to starting Defensive End in 2007 and he played in 13 games, including nine starts and made 44 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble. In his fourth season in the NFL, the Dolphins moved Matt Roth from Defensive End to Outside Linebacker, freeing him up to use his speed and track down quarterbacks. Despite battling through a chronically aching groin, Roth played in all 16 games and started 14. For the season, Matt had 53 tackles, which ranked fifth on the team, and had a career high 5.0 sacks for 27 yards in losses. Matt’s progress in Miami hit a speed bump in 2009 as he failed his conditioning test at the beginning of training camp and was put on the Physically Unable to Perform List that shelved him for the first 6 weeks of the season. It was a rocky road throughout 2009 as a result of that and upon returning he made a minimal impact while collecting only 4 tackles through Week 11 of the 2009 season with the Dolphins. The rocky period ended on November 24th when he was waived by the Dolphins. He was picked up by the Cleveland Browns the following day. In his first game of the season for the Browns he recorded 7 tackles and a sack, showing that he still has the ability to be an impact player in the league. He finished the 2009 season with 32 tackles and 4 sacks, with most of his stats coming in his 6 games with Cleveland. Roth returned to the Browns for the 2010 season as their starting Outside Linebacker. He racked up 86 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He became a free agent after the season and once the lockout ended, Roth signed a one year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars but missed a lot of time due to a concussion suffered during the season. Ultimately, after playing in only 7 games, Roth was placed on Injured Reserve before the final game of the season. His 2011 stats:
