Sanders came to Iowa as a lightly recruited small safety that left as one of the most popular and perhaps the best Hawkeye of the last decade. He currently sits 9th overall in tackles for the Hawkeyes with 348, but will be remembered more for his feroucious hits. Sanders was drafted as the 44th pick overall in the 2nd round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He is widely known as one of the most dominant and exciting defensive players in the NFL. He has already experienced a tremendous amount of success in his short NFL career. His lists of accolades already include: 2 time All Pro in 2005 and 2007, 2 time Pro Bowler, 2007 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 2007 GMC Defensive Player of the Year, 2007 AFC Defensive Player of the Year, and Super Bowl Champion. Bob’s physical play and hard hitting has rewarded him generously with the accolades listed above, large endorsement deals, and a long term contract with the Indianapolis Colts but it has also cost dearly as Bob has struggled with more than his fair share of injuries. The 2009 season has been no different as he has only been able to play sparingly in 2 games this season recording 2 Tackles and 1 Interception. On November 7th, 2009 the undefeated Indianapolis Colts officially announced that Bob would miss the remainder of the 2009 season with a torn bicep tendon. Despite getting healthy for the season opener against the Texans, Sanders was injured and left the first game after only 4 plays. The following day it was announced that Sanders tore his bicep tendon and would miss the majority of the season. The Colts kept him off Injured Reserve for the majority of the season, holding out hope he would be able to return before the season ended. Those hopes were eliminated after the Week 13 game when they decided they needed the roster spot and placed Sanders on IR and ended yet another season. After the season ended, so did Sanders’ time with the Colts. He was released on February 18, 2011. In early March, Sanders took his talent to San Diego and signed with the Chargers. Unfortunately, three and a half weeks into the regular season, Sanders was once again placed on Injured Reserve. A move that will most likely end his time in San Diego. His 2011 stats:
Week 1 vs. Minnesota Vikings: 6 tackles
Week 2 vs. New England Patriots: 6 tackles
Week 3 vs. Kansas City Chiefs: DNP
